A childhood dream
born in Paris

“At the age of eight, a family trip to France awakened a dream in me: to live in Paris, to create there, to grow there. That dream became a destiny, and today it brings Michino to life.”

A leather goods designer in Paris since 2005, Yasu Michino worked for Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Delvaux before founding Michino in 2014 — understated luxury, the finest leathers, bags that are light, beautiful and made to be worn.

GOLD

Not too red, not too brown, the burnt sienna color (which we often call 'Gold' in leather goods) recalls terracotta rooftops of one of the most artistic cities, Florence - which btw has always been synonymous with leather, craftsmanship and artisans. The white thread stitcing on Gold leather reminds me of the cupola of the Duomo. I imagine that someone who likes this color has an artistic soul.

PRUNE

The color Prune or I like to call it Azuki (red beans in Japanese) is one of my favorites in Japanese deserts. It has a nostalgic note. It's also the color of dates, prunes, raisins (wine)... This delicious color is definetely international! l imagine that a Kimono would also look great in Prune. It's a color that adapts to all kinds of styles and colors.

ECLIPSE

When I think of Eclipse, I picture the deep sea, a sea I could gaze at forever. The sea can look beautiful, yet it can also be frightening. Beyond that fear lies confidence, and a curious version of myself. You can't enter the sea unless you know yourself. With those thoughts in mind, I enjoy the shade of Eclipse. Perhaps Eclipse is the color that brings confidence. When I look out at the sea, my mind drifts through everything: how I want to live, the path I'm walking, what I want to achieve next, where I want to go, what I want, and who I want to see. The deep-sea color of Eclipse creates that space for quiet reflection. And I always find myself wondering what lies beyond this sea. Is it Japan? New York, where I used to live? Or Paris, where I live now?

BLACK

When I think of black, I picture a black-and-white photograph of a woman in a Saint Laurent tuxedo suit. To me, it captures the true spirit of the Saint Laurent era: the first time a woman was dressed in a suit, as if in hope of a world of gender equality. Yohji Yamamoto and Nick Knight's photo book also comes to mind, a work that will live on in the history of fashion. Mario Giacomelli's photograph "Dancing in the Snow" shows that black can be playful, too. While studying at New York University, I interned at Yohji Yamamoto's press office. The jacket I was given at the end of the internship, when I was 18, was the first luxury piece of clothing I ever owned. I still treasure it and wear it from time to time.
