BLACK

When I think of black, I picture a black-and-white photograph of a woman in a Saint Laurent tuxedo suit. To me, it captures the true spirit of the Saint Laurent era: the first time a woman was dressed in a suit, as if in hope of a world of gender equality.

Yohji Yamamoto and Nick Knight's photo book also comes to mind, a work that will live on in the history of fashion. Mario Giacomelli's photograph "Dancing in the Snow" shows that black can be playful, too.

While studying at New York University, I interned at Yohji Yamamoto's press office. The jacket I was given at the end of the internship, when I was 18, was the first luxury piece of clothing I ever owned. I still treasure it and wear it from time to time.
